Sean Astin Villanueva

PRESIDENT

Sean Astin Villanueva serves as President of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees, leading with a focus on developing impactful leaders and strengthening community engagement through service and accountability. His vision centers on building a unified organization that creates meaningful opportunities for growth and lasting impact.

Professionally, Astin is a Membership Development Specialist at Hawaiian Financial Federal Credit Union, where he builds strategic partnerships and advances financial education initiatives across Hawai’i.

He previously served as Vice Chair of the Hawai’i State Student Council, gaining experience working alongside state leaders and participating in national leadership training in Washington, D.C. Outside of his professional and organizational roles, he enjoys volleyball, surfing, traveling, and is actively pursuing his goal of becoming a pilot.

Ryan John (RJ) Mercado

CHAIRPERSON

Ryan John (RJ) Mercado serves as Chairperson of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees, where he provides guidance, oversight, and continuity in advancing the organization’s mission and long-term vision. He plays a key role in supporting leadership development and ensuring the strength and stability of the organization.

Professionally, RJ works with the State of Hawai’i Department of Labor and Industrial Relations as a Facilitator, where he contributes to workforce development and community-focused initiatives.

RJ holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa in Creative Media with a focus on animation, along with academic experience in music and Filipino language and literature. A member of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees since 2016, he remains deeply committed to the organization’s continued and impact.

Mark Anthony Lombawa, D.Arch

TREASURER

Mark Anthony Lombawa serves as Treasurer of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees, where he plays a key role in maintaining a financial accountability and supporting the organization’s continued growth. He brings a detail-oriented and disciplined approach to ensuring sound financial management.

Mark holds a Doctorate of Architecture from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and a Master of Architecture from Tongji University in Shanghai, China. With over five years of professional experience, his work spans residential, commercial, and institutional projects across both public and private sectors.

An active member since 2021, Mark remains committed to contributing to the organization’s success. outside of his professional and organizational roles, he enjoys playing volleyball and flag football.

Linzie Kaupena Balalio

SECRETARY

Linzie Kaupena Balalio serves as Secretary of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees, where she supports the organization through effective communication, organization, and record-keeping. She plays a key role in maintaining structure and ensuring the smooth execution of board operations.

Linzie holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Oregon University and has earned her Master’s in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Mental Health at Chaminade University. Her academic background reflects her commitment to personal development and supporting the well-being of others.

An active member since 2023, Linzie continues to build meaningful connections through community service and engagement. Outside of her professional and organizational roles, she enjoys spending time with her dog, playing volleyball, and exploring her interests in wellness and personal growth.

Kaleb Aguilar

SPORTS DIRECTOR

Kaleb Aguilar serves as Sports Director of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees, where he leads the planning and execution of athletic programs and initiatives that promote teamwork, engagement, and community involvement. He is committed to creating opportunities that bring members together through sports while strengthening leadership and communication.

Kaleb is currently serving on active duty in the United States Navy, where he continues to develop discipline, resilience, and leadership. His military experience shapes his ability to lead with purpose and adaptability within the organization.

An active member, Kaleb continues to grow through his involvement in RPJ while working toward his long-term goal of launching his own business. Outside of his professional and organizational roles, he enjoys spending time with friends, exploring new places, and staying active.

Mercedes Hernandez

MEMBERSHIP VICE PRESIDENT

Mercedes Hernandez serves as Membership Vice President of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees, where she focuses on member engagement, retention, and fostering a strong sense of community within the organization. She is committed to creating meaningful experiences that support both personal and leadership development.

Mercedes is currently serving on active duty in the United States Navy, where she has developed a strong foundation in discipline, resilience, and leadership. Her service reflects her commitment to growth, accountability and excellence.

An active member, Mercedes continues to expand her impact through RPJ while also pursuing her creative passions in fashion, illustration, and design. Outside of her professional and organizational roles, she draws inspiration from culture and travel, with aspirations of developing and publishing her own creative work.

Eve Epitome

ADVISOR

Eve Epitome serves as Advisor to the Rising Phoenix Jaycees, providing guidance, mentorship, and strategic insight drawn from her extensive leadership experience at the chapter, state, and national levels.

Eve is a past President of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees (2008), JCI Hawai’i State President (2012), and JCI USA National Vice President (2014). A JCI Senator-the highest honor awarded within the organization-she made history as the first female from JCI Hawai’i to serve at the national level and the first national board member of Filipino ancestry.

Professionally, Eve works for the State of Hawai’i Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Disability Compensation Division, where she oversees the Vocational Rehabilitation Program. She remains committed to developing leaders and strengthening the impact of the organization through her continued services and mentorship.
